Recently I have been spotting what I think are called looper caterpillars. I can’t seem to locate any information on these fascinating creatures, if anybody knows about them please do get in touch! The above chap was discovered during hedge cutting in the Stilt Garden, its markings seem to mimic the lichen which is particularly abundant on the branches of the pleached Hornbeams. Whether they are friends or foe I could not say, but they’re awfully interesting either way!

Not too keen on caterpillars Bertie - I think that one is a Brussels lace caterpillar - Cleorodes lichenaria
also called inch-worms?
