Pillar Garden

Lots of splendid sights have been appearing in the Pillar Garden lately!
Above a final blast of the Peonies taken a few weeks ago with Paeonia peregrine seeing us out.

Dictamnus albus var. purpureus
On hot days, the ripening seed pods of this cottage garden gem give off a volatile oil that can be ignited without damaging the plant! (Have not attempted this, yet!)

Digitalis purperea
Lots of Foxgloves around this year, joyful days.

Cirsium rivulare ‘Atropurpureum’
We need more Thistles in the garden, this is a good start!

Love the Paeonia peregrine... and the way the bee is drinking it all in.

I've never seen this beautiful thistle, Bertie...I have a fondnesss for thistles, but in Australia, we get Cirsium vulgare popping up where it shouldn't, as a noxious weed, so it's got a bad name. Perhaps someone's got 'Atropurpureum' here.

Glad you are back to posting. We missed you. These are lovely photos, that foxglove is just perfect. I bought some at a plant sale this spring, but I think they might be dwarfs....or they just aren't doing too well!

Thanks for you comments, they are always appreciated!

What a fab place to work, lucky you. Lovely photos.

That is a queen among thistles!

Waiting for mine to flower, but I'm afraid it will turn out to be just an invasive alien milk thistle. Has pretty leaves tho.

Glad to have found your blog - you and the chicken look good together ;) Confess that the lovely Dictamnus albus is a new one on me - oil burners and all.

Lucky you to "work" at such a lovely, historically significant place! Your photographs are stunning. I really must research that dictamnus!
